River View Loppet XC Ski Race (15th Annual)

Date:  Saturday, March 6, 2010

Registration and Bib Pick-up:  7:30 to 9:00 AM

Race:  10:00 AM

“Okay, I know what an XC ski race is, but what” you may ask “is a Loppet?”

The Loppet is a Scandinavian word used to describe a mass participation cross-country ski race, which may or may not be timed.  It literally means “citizens race”.

Held the first Saturday after the American Birkebeiner, the annual River View Loppet offers cross-country skiers the opportunity to race through the beautiful Brule River State Forest on the Afterhours Ski Trail.  Classic and skate lanes are set throughout the course.

Adult and youth racers compete in the 12K Freestyle, 24K Freestyle or the 12K Classic styles while Youth13 and under compete in a 4K Freestyle.  All of the races use interval starts with two skiers leaving every 30 seconds based upon each skier’s order of registration. All races start and finish at the Afterhours Ski Trail trailhead located just west of Brule on US Highway 2.

This year's Loppet is on Saturday, March, 6.  Registration and bib pick-up is held at the Brule Town Hall north of US Highway 2 on Maple Street in Brule between 7:30 and 9:00 AM.  Races begin at 10:00 AM.

The entry fees are:

$25.00 by February 20, 2010.

$35.00 after February 20, 2010.

$15.00 for youths 18 and under who sign up for 12K events.

$0 for the 4K races for youths 13 and under.
