Oh Baby It's Cold Outside - Outdoor Winter Recreation

The long cold winter doesn’t have to be a reason to get the blues; here in Douglas County there are so many great opportunities to enjoy the outdoors in the winter, that some people actually look forward to it!

For those who crave the exhilaration of power sports, Douglas County has nearly 400 miles of groomed, designated trails for snowmobiling or winter ATV off-road adventures.

If you seek adventures of the quieter type there is Mont du Lac Recreation Area for downhill skiing, snowboarding or tubing.  Not to mention the miles upon miles of trails that wind through the Northwoods for Cross country skiing (both classic and skate), snowshoeing and skijoring.

Throughout the season a variety of winter events like Fish-a-rama, Northern Great Lakes Pond Hockey, Hill X snowmobile racing, Winterfests and Winter Carnivals bring visitors and community together.  There are limitless opportunities for photographers to capture that perfect shot.  If that’s not enough you’re sure to find hills for sledding, rinks for ice skating, frozen lakes and rivers for ice fishing, and for those adventurous souls who desire complete tranquility, our lovely State Parks are open for winter camping.  And all of this is just the “tip of the iceberg” so, this winter don’t stay indoors, come out and play with us in Superior and Douglas County.
